Charles is the Co-Founder of Jamieson Coote Bonds and oversees portfolio management for the Australian, global and absolute return high grade bond investment strategies.
Charles forged a career as a seasoned bond investor from 2001 in New York, Tokyo, London and Sydney, with Merrill Lynch/Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Over his career, Charles has managed large government bond portfolios in key major currencies and derivative instruments.
Charles has successfully navigated bond portfolios through the complete economic cycle, including challenging market events such as September 11, 2001, the Global Financial Crisis, Eurozone crises, the US credit rating downgrade, concerns related to China and Greece, and the global pandemic.
Upon returning to Australia with the Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Charles’s most recent appointment was as the Co-Head of Fixed Income, Currencies & Commodities, where he was a member of the Bank’s Executive Management team. He also served as a member of the Australian Financial Markets Association (AFMA) Bond Committee.
Charles is a frequent speaker at major conferences and is well-recognised in the financial media community. He has also established himself as a regular contributor for The Australian.
Charles holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Monash University, majoring in accounting and finance.
Paul leads the firm’s operational performance and strategic direction. In addition, he provides macro analysis, investment insight and ESG leadership to benefit the security selection process and the wider business. Having joined Jamieson Coote Bonds at a formative stage in July 2016, he has a deep understanding of the firm’s business and operations.
Paul is a career investment researcher and portfolio manager with experience across North America and Australasia. He has previously worked at Colonial First State, Advance Funds Management, Barclays Global Investors (now BlackRock) including as a portfolio manager in San Francisco, and Vanguard as a senior investment strategist. He has authored/co-authored bond, multi-asset and factor-based thought leadership for Vanguard. He was a member of the Vanguard Investment Strategy Group with input into the bond investment process on macro issues. He was originally hired at Vanguard to lead the team responsible for portfolio construction analytics.
Paul holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Monash University and a Masters in Applied Finance & Investments from FINSIA. He is a Senior Fellow of FINSIA and a Councillor on the FINSIA Industry Council for Funds & Asset Management. In addition, he serves as an advisory board member of wealth manager the Boman Group. He also serves as an independent member of several investment committees, delivering asset allocation, manager selection and bond market insights.
Angus is the Co-Founder and Chair, with a focus on strategic distribution and maintaining key client relationships.
Angus has enjoyed a career as an intermediator of high grade bonds across the world’s major financial centres with clients across global central banks, asset managers, sovereign wealth funds and hedge funds.
He began his career with J.P. Morgan in London before moving to ANZ in Asia, where he was based in Hong Kong and Singapore. During this time, he specialised in marketing Australian government bonds and a range of other debt products. Angus executed the first-ever Australian bond investments on behalf of several major Asian central banks—institutions that have since become the largest holders of Australian government debt. He later returned to Australia with ANZ before joining Westpac in Sydney, where he led global central bank distribution.
Angus has a Bachelor of Business from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology majoring in economics and finance.
Chris oversees a range of investment strategies for institutional and retail clients.
Chris began his bond investment specialist career in 1994 and has worked at Merrill Lynch, Société Générale and The Royal Bank of Canada, across Sydney, London and Toronto. His investment experience has positioned him as an expert across a broad spectrum of financial instruments and portfolio strategies. In addition, his extensive engagement with institutional clients, ranging from financial institutions and pension funds to asset managers, hedge funds, and sovereign wealth funds has deepened his understanding of market flow dynamics and institutional investor behaviour.
Chris holds a Bachelor of Economics from La Trobe University and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from FINSIA. Chris earned the right to use the Chartered Market Technician (CMT nominal, awarded by the CMT Association) – one of the few in Australia to hold this designation. With over ten years of experience as a CMT, Chris has developed a proprietary process of technical analysis to help mitigate investment risk and add value to duration management.
James is responsible for managing investment strategies for institutional and retail clients.
Prior to joining Jamieson Coote Bonds, James was Senior Portfolio Manager, Fixed Interest and Absolute Returns at the Victorian Funds Management Corporation (VFMC), where he was responsible for managing global and domestic active fixed income portfolios. Prior to that James spent seven and half years at ANZ as a senior rates trader in Sydney and London. It was at ANZ that James first worked alongside Co-Founder and Chair, Angus Coote. James brings with him more than fifteen years' experience across domestic and global fixed income markets.
James holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) from the University of Melbourne.
Vijay is responsible for alpha idea generation and macroeconomic and market analysis in support of JCB’s investment strategies.
He began his career at the Australian Office of Financial Management before joining Vanguard, where he contributed to portfolio construction research and later became a Senior Fixed Income Trader, leading execution in global rates and credit across Asian time zones. Vijay then held senior roles with the Parliamentary Budget Office and the Australian Treasury, where he deepened his expertise in fiscal sustainability, global financial markets, central bank policy, and financial regulation.
Vijay holds a PhD in Finance and First Class Honours degrees in Law, a Bachelor of Finance (with first class honours) and Actuarial Studies from the Australian National University. His PhD thesis focused on how global bond markets price for monetary policy expectations together with term, credit and liquidity risk, whilst his Finance Honours thesis constructed a simple but effective model for forecasting interest rate swap rates in Australia. In practitioner forums, Vijay has published extensively and presented on broader macroeconomic and investment themes.
Mahika is a Quantitative Analyst, supporting the investment process through data-driven insights and analysis.
Mahika has built her career at the intersection of financial modelling, data analysis, and coding, with experience spanning Australia, Singapore, and her native India. She has applied these capabilities most recently at the University of Melbourne, and previously with CFOWorx, Varidus (Singapore), and Wavteq (India). These roles have strengthened her foundations in quantitative research, statistical and mathematical modelling, accounting, and venture capital.
Mahika holds a Master of Management (in Finance) from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Economics, Mathematics and Statistics) from Christ University in India. Mahika is also a Level 2 candidate in the CFA program and is committed to long-term growth in the field of finance. Mahika is an active member of Future IM/Pact (an initiative to promote diverse investment talent) and the FINSIA Young Finance Professionals committee.
